FAQs

What are your hours?
We are open as Mondays and Wednesdays 6:00 pm-9:00 pm, Tuesdays and Thursdays 7:00 pm-9:00 pm, Fridays 6:00 pm -10:00 pm, Saturdays 7:00 am-10:00 pm, and Sundays 7:00 am-9:00 pm.  Occasional child care outside of these hours is provided on a case by case basis.  We also hold special events, such as holiday care, outside of these hours from time to time.

What age children do you accept?
I accept children of all ages.  Adult-child ratios are age dependent and spots for younger infants/toddlers are very limited.

What is the cost of care?
*Evening playschool costs $11 per hour.
*Full day weekend or holiday care (up to 8 1/2 hours) costs are as follows:
       -Infants: $45 per day
-2-3 Year Olds: $40 per day
-3 and Up: $35 per day

When is payment due?
I offer flexible payment arrangements.  If your child attends regularly, you are free to choose whether you would like to pay daily or weekly.  If you pay weekly, you may select the day.  The enrollment packet contains a payment agreement form for you to fill out detailing your choices.

Will you accommodate cloth diapers?
Yes! I used cloth on my own daughter and many of my clients use cloth.

What is your sick child policy?
Children who have a fever of 100 degrees or more, vomiting, diarrhea, any known contagious illness, or rash other than diaper rash or heat rash are not to attend.

Do you go outside every day?
While I will judge every situation on a case by case basis, we will typically have outdoor play time as long as the temperature is above 15 degrees with wind chill and the heat index is below 100.  This is in accordance with the childcare weather watch charts provided by the Iowa Department of Public Health, which you can view HERE.

Do I need to bring food for my child?
I will provide one snack every evening.  On weekends, three meals and 3 snacks will be provided throughout the day.  I am well versed in gluten free needs.  If your child needs other dietary accommodations I may ask that you assist me in providing food.

How do you discipline?
Discipline is not punishment, but the development of self control.  I provide positive reinforcement, such as praise and high fives, for desired behaviors.  I use positive discipline techniques such as making my expectations clear, reminders, and redirection before resorting to time-outs. Physical and emotional punishments will not be used.

Do you have references?
Yes! I do not want to post their information online, but am happy to provide you with names and phone numbers if you ask.

How will you communicate with me?
I regularly post updates, announcements, and activity plans on the website and the Facebook page and group.  The Facebook group is for family and parents only and will typically provide more detailed information.  It is also a great place for parents to ask me questions and communicate with each other.  I am also available through phone (319-677-1153) and email (mandisplaceplayschool@yahoo.com) and will try to chat briefly at pick up and drop off.   I will always address any concerns with you personally.
